Lawrence R. (Pete) Guidi was born in Italy and immigrated to Canada, at the ripe old age of three, with his parents. The family settled in Kelowna BC where Pete did the rest of his upgrowing. He eventually married Irma, and fathered five children.
In the late fifties, Pete and a partner moved their families to Vernon, where they opened a meat shop in the downtown. They called it Butcher Boys Meats.
The partnership collapsed in 1961, and the downtown shop closed. Lawrence then purchased property at the corner of Pleasant Valley Road and Silver Star Road, the current location of Butcher Boys Food Market. At that time there was a garage and gas bar, a barber shop and a small grocery outlet established.
Over the years the garage, gas bar, and the barber shop were closed down, and the grocery operation expanded in conjunction with the meat shop. Lawrence and Irma have since passed on, and the facility is now managed by their son Paul and his wife Laura.
Paul and Laura have since continued to expand and thrive. In June of 2008, and beer wine and liquor store was added to the facility. Silver Star Liquor Store is located on the north (parking lot) side of the building. Come and visit us!
